Rincon: ‘I turned down Milan’

Tomas Rincón reflects on his move to Juventus from Genoa, and reveals he could have joined Milan instead.

The midfielder made the move to Turin in January, but could easily have been playing for the Rossoneri.

“There’s a feeling of bewilderment which could last a few seconds,” Rincón explained when asked by Mopo about taking a phone call from the Bianconeri.

“Initally you don’t quite believe it, but then you realise you have to go, there’s no other option. We did it all in two days.

“There was no reason to hesitate or have any doubts. I had a good two years in Genoa and there were other teams interested, like Milan, but Juventus was a dream for me.

“It’s an incredible feeling, you open the door and you’re greeted by [Gianluigi] Buffon and then Dani Alves immediately after.

“It’s something very special to be here. Gigi is one of the best goalkeepers of all time, Sami Khedira is a world champion.

“Dani Alves, [Gonzalo] Higuain… they’re all great players who always want to win and have that huge winning mentality.

“When I came here, I showed up and they said ‘Ciao Tomas, welcome, now we have to win!’.

“That’s Juventus, it’s what has made this club special for a long time and what always keeps them winning.”
