France winger Franck Ribery has been officially ruled out of the World Cup with a back injury.
The Bayern Munich man has been struggling for weeks with persistent pain in his back, and this afternoon the French Football Federation have confirmed that the 31-year-old will miss the tournament.
The Ballon d'Or nominee had been an injury doubt before the tournament, but was named by Coach Didier Deschamps in Les Bleus’ 23-man squad.
That has backfired today though, with the news that Ribery will have to watch the tournament from the sidelines.
Remy Cabella and Alexandre Lacazette are seen as potential replacements, but the injury will be good news for Juventus transfer target Antoine Griezmann.
The youngster has been in superb form for Real Sociedad this term, and will now, almost certainly, get his chance in Brazil.
France have been drawn in Group E alongside Switzerland, Honduras and Ecuador.
