According to Sportitalia, Sky Sport Italia, CalcioNapoli24 and more, today’s meeting with President Aurelio De Laurentiis and director Cristiano Giuntoli in Capri was to prepare for the new season and work out a transfer strategy.
They agreed a basic principle to continue together until 2023, but agreed there was no rush to get the paperwork drawn up yet.
The meeting is expected to continue over dinner, but neither Gattuso nor De Laurentiis are in any hurry to lock themselves down to a long contract.
Gattuso famously agreed to terminate his Milan contract by mutual consent and forego the salary owed as long as his staff had their wages fully paid up.
With that in mind, the coach does not want complex clauses included in the contract, as he believes if either of the parties aren’t happy, they should simply walk away.
