Report: Skrtel quits Atalanta

There are reports Martin Skrtel has terminated his contract with Atalanta by mutual consent, just three weeks after signing.

He was a free agent when leaving Fenerbahce and put pen to paper on a one-year deal on August 9.

Yet to make his Serie A debut after just one match, a 3-2 thriller away to SPAL, he had been due for a spot on the bench against Torino this evening.

However, in a sudden twist, Tuttomercatoweb, La Gazzetta dello Sport and more all claim Skrtel has terminated his contract with the Orobici by mutual consent.

It's believed to be a row with Coach Gian Piero Gasperini and frustration at the pace of his introduction into the team.

Club sources point to physical problems dealing with Gasp's tough training regime, while the player's entourage insist it's a tactical issue with the Coach.

Atalanta were drawn in a Champions League group with Manchester City, Shakhtar Donetsk and Dinamo Zagreb.

The 34-year-old Slovakia international has played for Zenit, Liverpool and Fenerbahce before this very brief Serie A experience.
