Report: Godin heading to Real Betis

Real Betis have reportedly agreed terms with both Diego Godin and Cagliari for the Uruguay international’s transfer.

The 35-year-old is no longer part of the Sardinian side’s plans for this season and they cannot afford to maintain his salary after the pandemic.

According to Sportitalia transfer reporter Rudy Galetti, a deal has been reached with both player and club to complete the transfer.

Godin will pick up €2m per season for a two-year contract with option for a third season.

The centre-back spent most of his career with Atletico Madrid before the free transfer to Inter in 2019, then another move to Cagliari a year later with a contract to June 2023.

He had also been linked with Besiktas and Villarreal over this summer, but it seems as if the defender has found what he is looking for in Real Betis Balompié.

Godin has scored eight goals in his 146 senior caps for Uruguay.
