Reja: ‘Lazio should’ve won’

Edy Reja felt “even a draw would’ve been a tight result” for Lazio considering their performance against Inter.

The Biancocelesti had taken the lead through Tommaso Rocchi before Diego Milito equalised on the stroke of half-time. Inter went on to win 2-1 thanks to Giampaolo Pazzini.

“In defence we were set out well, but we let ourselves get conned by that Milito one-two before the break,” said the Coach.

“We needed a little more concentration. It was a decent performance overall, even if we made a few mistakes that Inter made the most of, being a great team.

“Perhaps even a draw would’ve been a tight result considering the game, as we created much more than Inter. They only had two shots on goal.”

Reja also maintains the officials got it wrong on two crucial incidents during the second half.

“Pazzini was absolutely offside when he scored. In the other moment Lucio was first to pull Miroslav Klose and then handled the ball. I ask myself whether the referee would’ve given a foul against the striker if the shirts had been swapped. These are two important incidents.”

It was assumed Hernanes had been substituted by Francelino Matuzalem at half-time due to a knock, but the Coach revealed it was a tactical choice.

“Hernanes worked well for the team, even if I expect a little more from him in terms of attacking play. This is why I introduced Matuzalem, who gives more of a hand in midfield and can spread the ball.”
