Inter opened the scoring on Tuesday through what Fiorentina deemed to be a controversial penalty, and Cognigni added to the Viola’s anger, accusing Paolo Mazzoleni of being ‘one-sided’ and an ‘attention-seeking monster’.
“It was a beautiful game, but without the referee there would’ve been more respect between the two teams and more of a spectacle,” he said after the game.
“Mazzoleni’s officiating was inadequate, provocative and one-sided. He was Inter’s best player.
“We had a great game, but VAR only creates attention-seeking monsters.”
