With growing reports Marseille are making a strong bid for the Nice striker’s services, Rami was asked if he had been trying to convince SuperMario.
“I wasn’t trying to force him anywhere, I’m not a Coach,” Rami told Telefoot.
“I talked to Mario because we’ve known each other for a very long time and I appreciate him as a person. We talked a little about everything and nothing.
“Everyone knows he is a great striker. It’s possible he could join Olympique Marseille, as he has really matured and you need character to play for this team.
“Above all, we love football at OM and Mario would be a very important figure in this squad.”
Balotelli scored 26 goals in 38 competitive games for Nice this season, earning his Italy recall after a four-year absence.
Rami and Marseille reached the Europa League Final, but were defeated by Atletico Madrid.
