Pulga: ‘Cagliari look to Coppa’

Coach Ivo Pulga insists Cagliari’s crushing defeat to Udinese was nothing more than “a bump in the road” ahead of tomorrow’s Coppa Italia match with Pescara.

Coach Ivo Pulga insists Cagliari’s crushing defeat to Udinese was nothing more than “a bump in the road” ahead of tomorrow’s Coppa Italia match with Pescara.

“Sunday’s defeat was a bump in the road. It can happen to get a game wrong after eight consecutive positive performances,” he said of the 4-1 thrashing.

“We must focus on the Coppa Italia, which we care a lot about, not only because in case of victory we’d face Juventus in the next round, but above all because winning helps you to win.

“In training the last few days I saw the lads eager to prove themselves and I’m certain they will do well.

“The men who so far haven’t played as much will be used, as we are curious to see everyone at work. It’s a great opportunity for them.

“We do not treat this like a friendly and I don’t know any Coach or player who would go on to the field in order to lose.”

Today’s training session was interrupted by a huge thunderstorm, but Pulga will only name his squad tomorrow morning.

The Coppa Italia Fourth Round tie kicks off at the Is Arenas on Wednesday at 17.30 GMT.
