President Enrico Preziosi confirms he is in advanced negotiations to sell Genoa, but he ‘won’t leave this club to someone unprepared for the task.’
Toy tycoon Preziosi has been in charge of Genoa since 2003 and has been in talks to sell up several times, only for it to never quite go through.
He is now in negotiations with an American group and confessed this might finally be the time he parts company with the Grifone.
“As of today, I am the President of this club and I make the decisions,” Preziosi told Telenord on transfer deadline day.
“The future is open, I hope that this time it really is a solid move, but I think that I can say there are some genuine foundations to this offer.
“I am quite tired and feel the time to leave may be approaching, but at the same time I won’t leave this club to someone unprepared for the task. Genoa is a club with history, which has never gone bankrupt and deserves respect.
“The talks are ongoing and could take the club towards a future that some aren’t expecting.”
Genoa were very active on transfer deadline day, bringing in Mohamed Fares on loan with option to buy for €7m from Lazio, Abdoulaye Toure from FC Nantes, free agent Nikola Maksimovic and Felipe Caicedo from Lazio.
“This is the strongest squad we’ve had over the last seven or eight years and I worked hard to ensure we will not suffer again this season,” continued Preziosi.
“I am also proud of the fact Mattia Destro said he wanted to remain at Genoa. He’ll form a strong partnership with Caicedo.”
