Cesare Prandelli feels Mario Balotelli turned a corner against Denmark. “He has understood what he has to do for Italy.”

The Manchester City striker has often been criticised for a lack of commitment or work rate in his career, both at club and international level, but was scintillating in the 3-1 World Cup qualifying win last night.

“When I talk about Balotelli, I do not like the suggestion he is a gamble, but the moment has certainly come for him to take his share of responsibility in an Italy shirt,” said the Coach.

“Many people are often defined by what you see on the surface and by their public image.

“I say that from now on the Balotelli in an Azzurri jersey has to be the one we saw at San Siro against the Danes.

“I want a Nazionale that is always targeting an improvement, even if I’d like to have more time to try out some young players.”

Prandelli also cast his eye over Saturday’s Scudetto showdown between Juventus and Napoli. It kicks off at 17.00 BST and you can watch LIVE on your computer.

“I will not be in the stands, but I hope it’ll be a great game. There has been absolutely no interference from clubs during this week of international duty.”

There was controversy after Claudio Marchisio and Gigi Buffon picked up injuries.
