Miralem Pjanic “expected to be under more pressure” from Manchester City and felt Roma could’ve won.
“We are aware of our quality and wanted to play our football, which we did. We expected to be under more pressure on their home turf, but were prepared for anything,” the Bosnian international told Sky Sport Italia after a 1-1 draw.
“The team fully deserved this draw and could’ve done something more, in my view. Let’s say it is a positive result and we’ve had a good start to this Champions League group.
“We saw that we were in the most difficult group, but Manchester City and Bayern Munich still have to play on our home turf and we need to get other players back to fitness. We believe in our chances of progressing.”
The midfielders continually surprised Yaya Touré by going round the back of him and Pjanic confirmed that was the plan.
“Yes, we told each other in midfield that we had to prove ourselves and keep the ball to create chances, as we knew we had the quality.
“We felt on the field that City were there for the taking, but we gave our all and I think the draw is in the end thoroughly deserved.”
Pjanic had a great chance in the second half, forcing a save out of Joe Hart from point-blank range.
“It was tough to hit it any other way, maybe a touch on the right to get it on to my left foot, but it was moving quickly, the goalkeeper rushed out and closed the angle, so I had little time to decide.”
