Andrea Pirlo praised the Juventus “calm and strength” to fight back and beat Olympiacos 3-2 in the Champions League.
His free kick had put the Bianconeri in front, but the hosts went 2-1 down before Fernando Llorente (with the aid of a deflection off goalkeeper Roberto) and Paul Pogba scored within 46 seconds.
“It is a fundamental victory and we resolved it with the calm and strength to turn it around. It’s a shame about the penalty, but we are satisfied with the performance,” Pirlo told Sky Sport Italia.
“A win was crucial and we knew that it depended on us. Now there are another two games we have to make the most of, but first we have to focus on Serie A.”
This was the first game of the season that Juventus had started with four at the back and a diamond midfield.
“The new system? It went well. We had numerous chances and it’s just a pity we didn’t make more of them.”
As Atletico Madrid won 2-0 away to Malmo, the Spaniards lead the group on nine points, while Juve and Olympiacos have six.
