Even if the Swede said the Rossoneri “must dream of winning the Scudetto”, Pioli insisted their real target is to qualify for the Champions League.
“Zlatan is right to think this way, probably even the other players, but the reality is that we have not been in the Champions League for years. We want to improve what we did last season and bring Milan where we deserve to be,” the Italian coach said during La Gazzetta dello Sport Awards.
“I believe that our journey began in January with the arrival of Ibra, [Simon] Kjaer and [Alexis] Saelemaekers," he added.
“We changed the way we play and how we stay on the pitch. Results have boosted our self-confidence. We beat clubs like Juventus and other important opponents after the lockdown.
“Football and basketball can be similar, they are two team sports, I am fascinating by basketball, I always follow it with great attention.”
Speaking about the NBA salary cup, Pioli joked: “Ibra earns everything at Milan.”
The Rossoneri are the Serie A table leaders after 11 League games. Stefano Pioli's side are enjoying a three-point lead over second-placed Inter.
