Pioli: ‘Lazio superior to Galatasaray’

Stefano Pioli felt Lazio “proved they were superior” to Galatasaray over two Europa League legs, winning 4-2 on aggregate.

The first leg had ended 1-1 in Istanbul and the Aquile won 3-1 on home turf this evening to book their spot in the Last 16.

“The goal we conceded was the only negative from the game, as before we had controlled the game intelligently and ran very few risks,” the Coach told Sky Sport Italia.

“In the first half we lacked a bit of sharpness in attack, but then we did well after the break. I am happy for my lads, they deserved it by proving themselves superior to the Turks.

“The most important thing was the attitude of the squad. If it was always like this, even the individuals would benefit. The collective proved itself worthy of progress.

“At the end of the first half I told the lads to continue playing that way. I tried to encourage the lads, because perhaps they expected to already be 1-0 up at half-time, so they seemed a little worried.

“I was very positive, as I know the quality of my lads. They can target a good end to this campaign.”
