Pioli: ‘Gabigol must be patient’

Inter Coach Stefano Pioli assures Gabigol “is a talented lad” but he “must have the right patience”.

The Brazilian striker has only played 16 minutes since arriving from Santos for a €30m fee, and it has been suggested that he could leave the club in January.

“I think he’s a talented lad, he’s making an effort to understand a new mindset and way of working,” Pioli said in an appearance on Premium Sport.

“He must have the right patience, he’ll certainly be given space and he can grow with us.

“When I pick the team I don’t think about pricetags, I have a duty to select the best team. He needs time but he’s striving and working. He has good teammates ahead of him and he’ll have to engage.

“He’s young, talented and his quality will definitely be important for Inter.”

Pioli replaced Frank de Boer at Inter last month, and says it’s too early to judge his Nerazzurri tenure.

“One month isn’t enough to draw conclusions. We’re working and trying to grow. We need consistency to improve our position in the table, which currently isn’t what we want.

“There have been a lot of positives, I’ve found great availability and organisation. We have everything we need to work well, even if it’s inevitable there will be difficulties.

“There were problems when we arrived, but we’re trying to fix them.

“Other candidates were interviewed? It was more public than other talks I’ve had, but it was very normal.

“The club asks you for information on how you’ll coach, how you’ll fix the team. It was an open and positive meaning, we want to work seriously and do our best.”
