Perisic was the one to watch after Spalletti declared he would oppose a sale to Manchester United and the Croatian took centre-stage in the second half.
Jovetic had a goal ruled offside and Michy Batshuayi failed to make the most of a Candreva error, but Perisic doubled Inter’s lead with a classic counter-attack, his angled drive set up by Jovetic.
Ex-Roma defender Antonio Rudiger made his Chelsea debut, but Inter should’ve been 3-0 up by 61 minutes with another counter, Perisic rolling across to lay it on a plate for Joao Mario, the finish too weak to beat Courtois.
Chelsea were given a way back into the game thanks to probably the most extraordinary own goal you will ever see. Kondogbia was under pressure from 40 yards out and decided to curl it all the way back into the top corner of his own net, leaving Padelli stranded.
It gave Conte’s men more confidence and Charly Musonda tested Padelli with a couple of shots, while Batshuayi had the ball in the net after being incorrectly flagged offside.
