“We are very, very happy and this team continues to surprise us,” Percassi told Sky Sport Italia.

“It was a rough start, but we came back and won it, we couldn’t be happier. We’re pleased to start after this lockdown with two victories, as there are always unknown quantities after such a long lay-off, so to put in two such great performances in a few days against very strong teams, it shows how well we’ve worked.

“It was such a tough time for the city, but everyone was so professional and worked so hard, that’s what these performances come from.”

Bergamo was the Italian city hit hardest by the COVID-19 pandemic, but Atalanta are the pride of its people, fourth in Serie A and in the Champions League quarter-finals.

“There aren’t any big secrets. We work hard, my family grew up in Bergamo, right here in the Zingonia camp, and we all played football before becoming directors,” continued former player Percassi.

“This is a particularly fortunate moment for Atalanta, but we’re humble and don’t think we’re any better than anyone else. We are just glad to represent the city of Bergamo.”
