Torino forward Pietro Pellegri has unfortunately entered the history books after suffering the fastest ever injury in a professional football match, reports suggest.
The 21-year-old Italian was once an incredibly highly touted youngster after making his Serie A debut for Genoa at the age of 15 and scoring three goals for the club aged 16. Pellegri made a €20.9m move to Monaco in January 2018 but his career has since been derailed by injuries, heavily limiting his development over the last few years.
As detailed by Tuttosport, Pellegri suffered an ankle injury only 2.3 seconds after kick off in Torino’s clash against Bologna on the weekend, making it the fastest injury suffered on a professional football pitch.
The 21-year-old tried to get treatment for the issue and limped back onto the pitch, but was taken off after a few minutes when it became clear that he couldn’t carry on.
The record was previously held by former Santiago Wanderers man Marco Medeli, who suffered a muscle injury only three seconds into the match against Universidad de Conception seven years ago.
