Pavoletti turns into ‘Van Basten’ for Cagliari in dying minutes

Leonardo Pavoletti gave all three points to Cagliari against Sassuolo with a spectacular bicycle kick goal on Monday night and joked that he has ‘backwards feet’ but sometimes becomes ‘Marco Van Basten’ in the last eight minutes.

The Sardinians secured another incredible victory in the dying minutes against Sassuolo on Monday, scoring twice in the stoppages through Gianluca Lapadula and Pavoletti.

As highlighted by journalist Giuseppe Pastore, five of Pavoletti’s six goals in the last year were scored after minute 94.

The experienced striker spoke to DAZN after the final whistle on Monday and was praised by Atalanta coach Gian Piero Gasperini, one of the guests of their post-match show.

“You are extraordinary, Leo; it’s nice to see you score these incredible goals. Don’t quit; continue playing until you have the energy,” said La Dea’s boss, as quoted by Goal.com.

Pavoletti replied with a joke: “You know this is luck. You know me, I have backwards feet, but in the last eight minutes, I become Van Basten sometimes.”

Cagliari have won two of the last five Serie A games and are currently out of the relegation zone with 13 points in 15 matches.

Pavoletti, 35, has scored three goals in 10 league games this season.

Claudio Ranieri’s Cagliari had won their first game this season in October when they recovered from three goals down against Frosinone, claiming an incredible 4-3 victory.
