Inter defender Benjamin Pavard reflected on his decisive pass to Lautaro Martinez in the Supercoppa Italiana win over Napoli and underlined his hunger for success at the club.

The 27-year-old French centre back was one of the Nerazzurri’s heroes in their Supercoppa final clash with the Partenopei at Al-Awwal Park, bursting forward in the 91st minute to play a key pass across the box to Lautaro, who poked the ball into the back of the net.

Inter’s victory sees them pick up €8m in prize money and receive a key boost in confidence, especially amongst the various new signings like Pavard, Carlos Augusto and Davide Frattesi.

Speaking to Goal Italia, Pavard was first asked where he found the energy to make his late run in the Supercoppa win over Napoli.

“I don’t know. I was looking for my teammates, usually in the penalty area there’d be Mkhitaryan, Marcus (Thuram, ed.) or Lautaro further back, and this time there was Lautaro. We know he is a great striker. He had only one chance and he scored.”

The 2018 World Cup winner highlighted his desire to continue lighting trophies with Inter.

“This is my first trophy with Inter. I have already won several trophies in my young career, but this is my first with Inter and I’m hungry for more victories. I live for this, that’s why I play football and I’m very happy.”

Finally, Pavard spoke about how the Nerazzurri squad wouldn’t be too distracted by their success in the Supercoppa Italiana.

“Winning in the final was something fantastic. We came to win, and we did. Now we’ll celebrate and then we’ll rest because important matches await us in Serie A.”
