Pasqual: Fiorentina paid penalty

“With a few more penalties Milan could have almost won the Scudetto this season,” joked Fiorentina’s Manuel Pasqual on Tuesday.

“With a few more penalties Milan could have almost won the Scudetto this season,” joked Fiorentina’s Manuel Pasqual on Tuesday.

The defender made that remark in an interview with Radio Toscana just days after the Rossoneri pipped the Viola to the last remaining Champions League spot.

With six minutes of the season left, the Viola were in third until Milan – losing 1-0 at Siena – were handed a controversial penalty. They went on to win 2-1.

“Fiorentina believe in the good faith of referees,” the full-back noted. “And it is not even an Italian problem given how we were eliminated by Bayern Munich in the Champions League a few years ago.

“There are good referees who you can discuss things with, but there are also those who are not good enough.

“With a few more penalties Milan could have almost won the Scudetto this season,” he smiled. “Joking aside, it is obvious that penalties did give Milan a helping hand.

“Balotelli scored more goals from the penalty spot than he did in open play.”

The Italian international bagged 12 Serie A goals for the Diavolo – which included six penalties and one free-kick.
