Manuel Pasqual “immediately felt at home” when completing his transfer from Fiorentina to Empoli.

He hasn’t left Tuscany, but after 11 seasons was released at the end of his Viola contract.

“When I stepped into the training centre for the first time, I immediately felt at home,” said Pasqual at his presentation Press conference.

“It wasn’t easy after many years with the Viola jersey to feel immediately cared for in a new environment. The Empoli directors called me every day to convince me to come here and made me realise they wanted me at all costs.

“Feeling so appreciated made me understand I could not make a better choice. Now I feel a bit like I’m at my first day at school. I have to get to know everyone and it’s all a discovery, but I am happy and this all makes me very enthusiastic.”

The 34-year-old full-back explained people who thought this move was dictated by convenience were “so very wrong. Perhaps it represented one per cent of my thought process.

“Empoli was a decision made because the club proved they wanted me here and still believe I can give my contribution both on and off the field.

“I also like the style of football shown by Empoli in recent years. I remember when we faced them as opponents, I admired the fact they treated every match the same way.

“I came to Empoli with a smile and the desire to prove I still have a lot to give. I knew that Fiorentina my role and minutes on the field would be limited.

“The starting point is to do battle, as I did at Fiorentina, to achieve the historic result of a fourth consecutive campaign in Serie A.”
