Parma “made some sacrifices and went for it” when securing ex-Arsenal and Roma winger Gervinho on transfer deadline day.
Director of sport Daniele Faggiano told Sky Sport Italia about how the surprise swoop for the Ivory Coast international came about.
“The idea started from just discussing players with those characteristics. There’s no harm in trying, so I gave it a go. The club made some sacrifices and I went for it.
“I read some figures that have been reported on his contract, but they are not realistic.”

Gervinho terminated his deal with Hebei China Fortune and returns to Serie A after leaving Roma for China in January 2016.
The 31-year-old has signed on until June 2021 and could form a new trident attack with Roberto Inglese and Jonathan Biabiany.
“We also have forwards like Amato Ciciretti, Mattia Sprocati and Antonio Di Gaudio. The most important thing is having Parma back where it belongs.”
