Greek international Sotiris Ninis was linked with several clubs, but Parma reveal he moved to PAOK “for sentimental reasons.”

The 23-year-old creative midfielder lasted just one season at the Stadio Tardini and has been loaned out to the Greek team.

“Ninis chose to go back to Greece for sentimental reasons,” explained Parma director Pietro Leonardi.

“We hope this can be a good season for him and for PAOK. We received many offers for him, but he chose them.”

He joined from Panathinaikos in July 2012 on a free transfer, but managed only 14 Serie A appearances, most of them as a substitute.

“Ninis was an important investment for Parma, we believe in the player and will continue to track his progress this term.

“There is no buy-out clause in the loan deal, but we have a good rapport with PAOK, so we could evaluate a sale at the end of the season.”
