Jean-Pierre Papin looks forward to PSG-Milan in the Champions League, explains where Rafael Leao must learn from Kylian Mbappé and why Gianluigi Donnarumma ‘makes incredible howlers.’
The former Milan shot-stopper will wear the captain’s armband this evening at the Stadio San Nicola when Italy host Malta in a EURO 2024 qualifier.
After that, he has England at Wembley Stadium on Tuesday, then a Champions League showdown between PSG and his old club.
“I think Donnarumma is one of the best goalkeepers in Europe, but he also makes incredible howlers in big games and I can’t understand it,” said Papin at the Gazzetta dello Sport Festival.
Papin won the Ballon d’Or and played for Milan from 1992 to 1994, so has torn loyalties when PSG and the Rossoneri do face off in the Champions League.
“Luis Enrique is a fine coach and the problem for Milan will be stopping Kylian Mbappé, because he remains the best out there. It takes a perfect team performance, which is what Newcastle did against PSG. Kylian is a killer, he can make the difference in an instant.
“Rafael Leao is just as capable of doing damage, but is not as consistently decisive as Mbappé.”
