Pagliuca: ‘Inter should sell Onana to Premier League’

Former Inter goalkeeper Gianluca Pagliuca believes they ought to sell Andre Onana to Chelsea or Manchester United, as he already has his idea for an Italian replacement.

Over the last 24 hours, the Cameroon international has been heavily linked with both the Premier League giants for a potential summer transfer.

Considering Onana was brought in as a free agent from Ajax last year, any sale would be a big profit for the Nerazzurri.

Pagliuca was the Inter goalkeeper for five years and represented Italy too, so he is in a position to give some advice to the current club hierarchy.

“If there was a high offer, I’d say over the top, then I’d sell him,” Pagliuca told La Gazzetta dello Sport.

“Obviously, a suitable replacement would be needed and there are several options who are of the same level. If a good bid came in, I’d immediately say yes to selling Onana.

“He is a consistent goalkeeper who hasn’t made big errors, even if in my view he can do even better. He tends to parry the ball too often. Onana is like a cat on the goal-line, he moves rapidly, but doesn’t trap the ball often enough.”

Pagliuca has already set his sights on the potential heir to Onana in the Inter gloves, targeting current Empoli talent Guglielmo Vicario.

“If Inter sell Onana for a good price and sign Vicario, that’ll be a great deal for them. He’s the goalkeeper I like the most in Serie A and has the right maturity now for the step up.”

Onana turns 27 on Sunday and started out in the Barcelona youth academy before moving to Ajax in 2015, then joined Inter as a free agent in the summer of 2022.

He has made 28 competitive appearances for Inter this season, keeping 14 clean sheets.
