Former Napoli director Mauro Meluso confirms that the Partenopei will consider offers for Victor Osimhen in the January transfer window and reveals the Nigeria international received an ‘important’ proposal in 2023.

Meluso was the Napoli sports director in 2023-24, but he was appointed in July last year and left the club the following April.

Multiple reports suggest Napoli-owned striker Osimhen, currently on loan at Galatasaray, has a clause for the January transfer window as well as one for the summer.

“He no longer wanted to be part of the first team,” Meluso said during the ‘Palermo Football Conference’ as quoted by Corriere dello Sport.

“He had received an important offer even before I arrived at Napoli, but De Laurentiis didn’t consider it because he thought about the club’s good. He may have made wrong decisions but did them to keep Napoli competitive.”

Osimhen joined Galatasaray on loan in September, after the summer transfer window closed in the top five European leagues and the Saudi Pro League.

“It was a last-minute solution so he would not lose the first three months [of the season], then, in January, they’ll see,” concluded Meluso.
