Atalanta have announced the signing of Cittadella and Italy Under-21 defender Marco Varnier on loan with a compulsory purchase option.
The deal was confirmed in a statement on Atalanta’s official website, which described Varnier as a ‘modern and very solid centre-back, who is not only clean with his tackling and good at reading the game but also effective at setting up attacks and finishing them off.’
The 20-year-old, who had also been linked with Sassuolo, has reportedly agreed a contract with the Orobici until 2024.

Varnier made 36 appearances for Cittadella last season, scoring twice and helping the side achieve a playoff place in Serie B, while he also has two caps for the Azzurrini.
