Official: Cosmi out, Rossi returns

Maurizio Zamparini insisted he had “not fired anyone yet,” but then Palermo formally sacked Serse Cosmi to recall Delio Rossi.

The Sicilian club released a statement late tonight confirming that Cosmi was no longer in charge, having lost three of his four games at the helm.

It was reported that Rossi had turned down the chance to come back to Palermo, having been fired only a month ago, until Fabrizio Miccoli begged the Coach to return.

The President was furious after today's 4-0 derby defeat to Catania and declared he'd “probably” sack Cosmi to bring back Rossi.

“I have not fired anyone yet,” Zamparini said this evening less than an hour before the formal announcement.

“Cosmi is still in his job. I am still waiting for him to get back from Catania so I can speak to him.

“I don't know what will happen over the next few hours. I don't know if Rossi is the only alternative right now.

“It is even possible that Cosmi could stay in his position. I am taking the night to think about things.”
