Empoli defender Federico Barba has joined VFB Stuttgart, on loan with an option to buy.
The 22-year-old had been linked with Napoli, but it was revealed last week that the Bundesliga side had entered the race.
“Federico Barba has signed a contract with Stuttgart,” the German side confirmed in a statement not their official website.
“He joins on loan until the end of the season.”

The club’s sporting director declared that Barba will be observed "to see if he is a long-term option”, and Sky reports that they will be obliged to buy the defender if he plays 10 games.
It was reported last week that the figure to redeem Barba would be around €4m.
