The former Genoa coach has replaced Marco Giampaolo at the helm of the Granata and has immediately started working to turn things around.

“It’s special challenge, I care because the history of the Toro is noble and must be a constant,” Nicola said at a press conference.

“I want to start immediately without wasting time on words, but to act on priorities. We must have a change of path.

“I have great respect for Giampaolo, I greet him.”

Torino are 18th in Serie A, one point behind Cagliari and two points behind his former team Genoa, and Nicola said it’s essential that his players ‘start believing’ in the project.

“We need the group and we need honest relationships,” Nicola continued. “We need to be comfortable with each other and believe in the work.

“I don’t care what we did before. I wasn’t there, it’s not up to me to judge. I worked on the priorities and have my third training today.

“The group is fundamental, then the rest will come. The results are a consequence. I will never ask for a result, but a performance made up of balance and without fear of making a mistake.

“I want to see a performance with two principles.”

Nicola aims to build a ‘new path to reach salvation’ in Serie A, and expects ‘concentration and determination against Benevento tomorrow.

“We will have to build a new path to reach salvation. This is a club that has ambitions, but aware we need to take the next step,” he said. “There have been requests for game principles. The goal is to apply these principles.

“I’m not interested in making mistakes and you have to make a mistake to make a mistake. You need concentration and determination, I’m convinced and believe in these guys.”
