Reports suggest that Newcastle United scouts have been closely following Teun Koopmeiners as they look for a replacement for the banned Sandro Tonali.
The Magpies invested around €70m into Tonali in the summer transfer window and could do nothing but watch on in horror as he was handed a 10-month ban for placing bets on football matches, keeping him out of action until August 2024.
With limited midfield options available to Eddie Howe, Newcastle are now planning to make a move in the January transfer market to bolster the squad as they look to stay in the fight for a top four finish.
As reported by Tuttosport, Newcastle are keeping a close eye on Koopmeiners as they consider a possible move for the Atalanta star in January.
La Dea rejected an offer worth around €45m by Napoli in the summer for the Dutch midfielder, wanting a higher fee of around €60-70m.
Koopmeiners has recently renewed his contract with Atalanta, extending his stay from 2025 to 2028 with a raise from €1.4m to €2.5m net per season.
