New deal for Meret?

Napoli are, according to La Gazzetta dello Sport, preparing to reward goalkeeper Alex Meret with a new deal at the San Paolo.

The newspaper claims the Partenopei have been in contact with the shot stopper’s agent to extend with the former Udinese man.

The 23-year-old, capped once by Italy, has played 15 games in Serie A this term, rotating with David Ospina, who has seemed to develop into becoming the first choice under Gennaro Gattuso in recent months.

The 23-year-old, capped once by Italy, has played 15 games in Serie A this term, rotating with David Ospina, who has seemed to develop into becoming the first choice under Gennaro Gattuso in recent months.

The lack of opportunities under the current Azzurri coach has led to rumours about a move away from the San Paolo this summer, as the former SPAL goalkeeper would need regular playing time to fight for a place in Italy’s Euro 2020 squad next summer.

The report claims Napoli are ready to offer Meret new terms to give the youngster confidence in his fight against Ospina for a place in the side, despite already having tied him to the club until June 2023.

When everything returns to normal, his representatives will meet with Napoli to reach an agreement.
