“I wanted to go back to Brazil and retire from the game,” he told Il Giornale on Friday after playing in just six top-flight games across three seasons. “But you then reflect and start again.

“I also decided to play on because I wanted to emerge in Florence.

“I just continued on my path thanks to the faith of everyone. I never felt like I was a gamble, I know I was given a great opportunity and I couldn’t pass up on that.
