Napoli will not sell Lozano to LAFC

Hirving ‘Chucky’ Lozano will not be joining LAFC over the summer, claim reports, as they failed to agree terms with Napoli.

The Mexico international is down to the last 12 months of his contract with the Partenopei and an extension seems improbable.

However, the offer made by Los Angeles FC was not considered acceptable by Napoli, despite him already agreeing a contract worth circa €5.5m per season net in MLS.

This prompted LAFC to withdraw the offer.

The main problem is that the Major League Soccer transfer window closes on August 2 and LAFC have already signed Cristian Olivera as an Under-22 player, which limits their other transfer options.

Napoli also seemed to send a signal today that the deal was not going to happen, starting El Chucky in a friendly match against Girona.

It is possible that LAFC will try again in January, when Napoli will have to make a sale to avoid losing him as a free agent.

The 28-year-old was purchased from PSV Eindhoven in the summer of 2019 for €45m.
