Diego Demme has been left out of the Napoli squad for the season opener against Frosinone, with reports in Germany he is heading towards Hertha Berlin.
The 31-year-old is not part of the Partenopei’s plans for this term under new coach Rudi Garcia.
His current contract only runs to the end of the current campaign and it is widely believed his time at the club has come to an end.
According to Sky Sports Deutschland, Demme has already made his decision to join Hertha Berlin.
He has been promised the captain’s armband as part of the agreement over personal terms and negotiations continue with Napoli.
Demme joined Napoli from RB Leipzig in January 2020 at a cost of €10.25m.
He was born and raised in Germany to Italian parents, who named him Diego in honour of Napoli hero Diego Armando Maradona.
The player made 89 competitive appearances for the Partenopei, scoring five goals and adding four assists.
