Napoli have still not agreed terms with Tottenham for Etienne Capoue, so Yann M’Vila and Michael Essien are alternatives.
The Partenopei are expected to welcome Jorginho from Verona for a medical today and Michel Bastos could also arrive on loan from Al Ain.
It has been known for some days that Capoue is a prime target for Rafa Benitez’s team in the January transfer window.
The 25-year-old Frenchman only joined Spurs from Toulouse in August for €11m (£9.68m) and want to recoup as much of that sum as possible.
However, according to Sky Sport Italia, the meeting between Napoli director Riccardo Bigon and Tottenham representatives failed to reach an agreement on his fee.
The Serie A side therefore looks elsewhere and reportedly offered Edu Vargas to Rubin Kazan in exchange for another French defensive midfielder, Yann M’Vila.
The two players would move on loan with an option to buy at the end of the season plus €2m, but it might be a problem convincing Chilean talent Vargas to accept the move to Russia.
There is another alternative, the third-choice target Essien, who is not finding much space at Chelsea.
