Napoli President Aurelio De Laurentiis has paid €15,000 at auction to purchase the shirt Dries Mertens wore when equalling Marek Hamsik’s record.
The Belgium international scored the equaliser in Napoli 1-1 Barcelona in the Champions League Round of 16, his 121st for the club.
It allowed him to match Hamsik’s all-time club record of 121 goals for Napoli.
Mertens donated the jersey to charity for the Cannavaro-Ferrara Foundation and it raised €15,000 at auction.

Once the bidding was completed, the winner was revealed to be Napoli President De Laurentiis.
“I am happy to have won, in the name of Napoli, the shirt Dries wore in Napoli-Barcelona,” wrote the President on Twitter.
“It’s an important jersey that will remain in-house with Napoli and act as a contribution for those who are in need during a difficult time.”
Several other shirts were also auctioned off for the charity, but Diego Armando Maradona’s Argentina jersey gifted to Ciro Ferrara 33 years ago was the star attraction, going for €55,000.
