Mutu gets a second chance

Fiorentina pulled out of a move to sign Bari striker Paulo Vitor Barreto in order to give Adrian Mutu a second chance, according to La Gazzetta dello Sport.

The Viola were ready to reinforce their attack with a transfer worth €4.5m but called it off at the last minute in great part because the player was carrying an injury.

Bari has since stated that the club no longer wanted to sell the player, but it appears that Fiorentina owner Andrea Della Valle is prepared to reintegrated Mutu.

Mutu's career at the Artemio Franchi looked to be over when he abandoned training without permission last month after a round of talks between his agent and the club.

Fiorentina had asked that Mutu's contract be rescinded, setting a date with the FIGC's arbitration panel on Valentine's Day.

However, Mutu has since apologised and severed ties with his agent to appease Della Valle.
