Muriel departs Fiorentina

Luis Muriel has announced his departure from Fiorentina, freeing himself up for a move to Atalanta.

Muriel joined Fiorentina in January, on loan from Sevilla with an option to buy, and made a flying start with six goals in his first eight Serie A appearances.

However, he failed to score in the League after that, going on an 11-game barren spell as the Viola barely avoided relegation.

“Maybe it didn’t go the way we wanted,” wrote the Sevilla striker on Instagram.

“Maybe it didn’t go the way we wanted,” wrote the Sevilla striker on Instagram.

“Maybe it ended in the strangest of ways, but no-one will ever erase these five months in Florence and at Fiorentina from my head and heart

“I put in all my strength, between goals and mistakes. Between grimaces and kisses. Here, I’ll never forget them.

“Neither will I forget the warmth of the fans who live for Fiorentina and suffer for Fiorentina.

“I hope with all my heart that they can smile again very soon for Fiorentina’s victories. Thank you, because you made me feel at home. Because my family and I felt at home.

“Because I will carry forever… a kiss for Florence.”

The 28-year-old exited Colombia’s Copa America campaign with a knee injury but is on his way to Atalanta in an €18m deal.
