Mourinho safe for now but clock ticking at Roma – report

Roma denied reports that they were ready to sack Jose Mourinho this weekend but that doesn’t mean pressure isn’t starting to mount on the Portuguese coach.

On Saturday, Corriere dello Sport exclusively reported that Giallorossi owner Dan Friedkin was ready to dismiss Mourinho should the club lose on the road to Cagliari, ready to appoint Hansi Flick as his replacement.

Roma took to the media to silence these claims, calling the report ‘fake’ and challenging suggestions that they’d contacted Flick to sound out a possible move. The news broke at the same time that Mourinho’s quotes regarding a future move to Saudi Arabia began to gather steam on social media.

As reported by Corriere dello Sport today via TMW, Tiago Pinto has convinced Friedkin to keep faith in Mourinho and the coach won’t be dismissed regardless of the result against Cagliari.

Should the Giallorossi lose, however, more pressure would be piled on the Portuguese coach, who needs to turn things around fast to fully convince Friedkin of his future in the Italian capital.
