Montolivo: ‘Milan needed away win’

Riccardo Montolivo admits Milan “needed an away win” after beating Udinese last night.

The Rossoneri held on for a 3-2 win, but almost let the game slip having held a 2-0 advantage at half-time.

“We needed an away win,” Montolivo told Milan Channel.

“We need consistency. The difficulties we had in the second half were down to their change in formation, we were too slow in changing our approach.

“We’ve worked a lot on attacking space in behind, and movement to cause more difficulty for the opposition defence.

“Now our goal is to go to Genoa and win, and find that consistency.

“It won’t be easy, but our goal is always and only winning.”

Montolivo has been competing with Nigel De Jong for a midfield berth at the start of this season, but last night the two played together.

“We played a good game together, Nigel is very important for us. There have been good signals from all the players.

“Giacomo Bonaventura? He’s a quality player, he can take on different roles. He’s a very reliable player.

“As for Davide Calabria, you can see he’s very calm and lucid on the pitch, and that’s very important for someone so young.

“We have to keep supporting him, and also allow him to make some mistakes.”
