Montella: ‘Strong Samp performance’

Vincenzo Montella saw “a good performance and real belief” in Sampdoria despite their slender 2-1 defeat to Juventus.

“It seemed to me a good performance and we showed real belief,” the Coach told Mediaset Premium.

“It was partly a strategy that we wanted to leave no spaces between the lines, so we sat a little deeper than we usually do.

“We must continue working and improving. The team is making steps forward, we had a good performance today against an excellent opponent. The positive thing is we have huge margins for improvement.”

Antonio Cassano was again impressive and scored a goal, his first of the campaign.

“He is a strong player who is applying himself. It is important to work when he’s in the team, just as it is important to make the most of his characteristics.

“Today Eder, Cassano and Muriel did play together for a portion of the match. It depends on the situation, but obviously that trident requires a degree of sacrifice from the strikers.”

Sampdoria are active on the transfer market, including rumours of a loan bid for Sevilla centre-forward Ciro Immobile.

“Immobile is a good player,” confessed Montella. “The important thing is that if we have the opportunity to improve the squad, we pick the right players.”
