There are reports attacking winger Cuadrado could be re-routed to full-back in a 4-4-2 system.
“It is an option, as after all he did start his career in that position…” noted Montella in today’s Press conference.
“We already tested him out there in pre-season and he can adapt to any role. Naturally he has different characteristics to a pure full-back, but he is ready and able.
“Giuseppe Rossi had a slight problem this week, but I think he’s available. Pasqual is also ready to play, as it was a nasty cut, but only a cut with no other complications.”
Pasqual was stretchered off during Italy’s 2-1 win over the Czech Republic on Tuesday and required 50 stitches to a head wound.
“We have a large squad with quality running right the way through, so the responsibility is mine to make choices. Juan Manuel Vargas is also back and different to how he was last season. We’ve decided to give him time.”
Last season Fiorentina only narrowly missed out on third place in Serie A, but this term have Europa League commitments too.
“We must balance out our efforts and everyone give their all. Tomorrow the game with Cagliari must give us answers, as they are an excellent side who I’d consider perhaps the strongest of the second tier teams.
“They are much the same as last season, built on solid foundations with a very good forward line, as Victor Ibarbo tends to be on the bench. They are also dangerous from set plays.”
Montella joked about how he is helping German international Gomez to settle into Serie A.
“I taught him a few Neapolitan songs and speak to him in Neapolitan,” said the Coach. “Joking aside, he is highly motivated and learning Italian well.
“Can we challenge for the Scudetto? We have to take it one game at a time. I understand this is a media game and people talk, but we do not have to think about this, nor chase after it.”
