Milanic tipped for Palermo job

Maribor Coach Darko Milanic has emerged as a surprise contender for the Palermo job next season.

Palermo President Maurizio Zamparini fired Delio Rossi last month after his side suffered a humiliating 7-0 defeat to Udinese at home.

Serse Cosmi has taken charge of the team until the end of the season, but few believe the gravel-voiced tactician will stay on beyond the summer.

Claudio Ranieri and Gian Piero Gasperini have been linked with the post, but Zamparini is said to be very keen on Milanic, not least because of his work at Maribor.

Palermo have done a lot of business in Slovenia of late, signing the likes of Josip Ilicic, Armin Bacinovic and Sinisa Andelkovic.

Milanic, a former captain of Partizan Belgrade, has a strong personality, speaks perfect Italian and has opened up a 10-point gap at the top of the Slovenian League with Maribor.

He is known to play good football and favours a 4-2-3-1 formation, one which Zamparini feels would suit Palermo.
