Milan insist they signed former hero Kaka because he fits in with the tactics of boss Massimiliano Allegri.
Although Vice-President Adriano Galliani admits there is a special emotional bond with the now 31-year-old, he underlined that he has been netted for footballing reasons.
“I was one of the Kaka orphans when he left, like many of the fans, but this move is not just sentimental,” the official noted.
“We primarily signed him for tactical reasons. Allegri really pushed to have him back and we immediately thought of Kaka after selling Kevin Prince Boateng.”
Kaka, who should play as a trequartista in a 4-3-1-2 system, became one of the world’s best players during his six years at the club before his €65m switch to Real Madrid.
“He didn’t want to leave four years ago, it was Milan who made the decision after the significant courtship of Real Madrid,” Galliani continued.
“Our relationship with him never ended, he was always in our hearts. We knew, sooner or later, that we would bring him home.
“We have wanted him for the last two years and Kaka has underlined his affection to Milan by making a substantial economical sacrifice.”
Galliani added that Kaka had not joined a club in crisis.
“Let’s end talk that Milan are in trouble. We are still one of the top teams in Europe. What I’m basically saying is that Kaka is not joining a team made up of tramps.
“Kaka has also not returned here to play for just three months and then go and join the LA Galaxy. The fans can stay calm as he will remain until at least 2015.”
