Milan stars furious as Maldini sacked

Rafael Leao openly showed his surprise at seeing Paolo Maldini sacked by Milan, but according to reports in Italy, more Rossoneri stars are unhappy with Gerry Cardinale’s decision, including Theo Hernandez and Mike Maignan.

Maldini and sporting director Ricky Massara are set to leave the Stadio Meazza following a tense meeting with owner Cardinale on Monday.

It was meant to be a summit to plan the future, but on the contrary, Cardinale reportedly informed the pair that the club would do without them in 2023-24.

Leao reacted on Twitter with a thinking emoji but is not the only player surprised by Cardinale’s decision.

According to Repubblica, Theo, Leao and Maignan didn’t take it well and reacted angrily when informed that Maldini would leave. The report claims Leao would have never signed a new deal with Milan had he known Maldini would go.

The 23-year-old extended his stay at San Siro last week, signing a new €7m-a-year deal until 2028.

Likewise, Maignan and Theo may consider their future at San Siro with Chelsea interested in the French keeper.
