Stefano Pioli suggested that Mike Maignan won’t return for Milan until 2023 but the Frenchman has no intention of missing out on the upcoming World Cup, reports suggest.
The 27-year-old French goalkeeper suffered a calf injury whilst on international duty with Les Bleus last month and he was hoping to return to action this month before his issue took a turn for the worse in training. Pioli does not expect to see Maignan back on the pitch until January next year but the shot stopper has other ideas.
As reported by La Gazzetta dello Sport, Maignan does not want to miss the upcoming World Cup in Qatar and so will try to push his recovery in order to be fit enough to earn a call up to Didier Deschamps’ team.
The Rossoneri will be forced to rely on Ciprian Tatarusanu in the run-up to the tournament but the Frenchman could still join the France squad at the World Cup in Qatar.
