Milan defender Pierre Kalulu has suffered a muscle injury meaning that Simon Kjaer and Malick Thiaw will start in central defence against Inter on Saturday if the Frenchman doesn’t recover.
Multiple sources in Italy, including Sportmediaset and Gazzetta, claim Kalulu has suffered a muscle injury that will be assessed by the Rossoneri doctors in the coming days. Kalulu had not been called up by his national team France so he picked up his injury while training with his club.
With Fiakyo Tomori suspended against Inter, Pioli will face a selection crisis for the derby if Kalulu does not recover.
Kjaer and Thiaw will start in central defence against Inter on Sunday if Kalulu is ruled out. The other two centre-backs available would be Mattia Caldara, who has only played two games with the Rossoneri and young Argentinean defender Marco Pellegrino.
There have been more concerns for Milan during the September break as Olivier Giroud has returned to Milanello after suffering a slight injury for France. Likewise, Mike Maignan and Theo Hernandez skipped a training session with Les Blues on Saturday, but according to several sources in Italy, the trio should be available for the derby against Inter next week.
